Inspiring Young Musicians Since 1994

Founded in November 1994, Congleton Youth Orchestra offers a vibrant and welcoming space for young people from Congleton and the surrounding areas to learn, play, and perform music as part of an orchestra.

We cater to all levels of ability, with a Senior Orchestra, an Intermediate Wind, Brass and Percussion Group, an Intermediate Strings Group, and two dedicated training groups for those just starting out. Each term culminates in a public concert, usually held in the beautiful setting of Congleton Town Hall — a proud showcase of our players’ hard work and talent.

Rehearsals take place every Saturday morning during term time at Trinity Methodist Church, Wagg Street, Congleton (CW12 4BA). Our young musicians are supported by a team of skilled and passionate instrumental tutors and volunteers, all of whom are fully DBS-checked.

Whether your child is taking their first steps with an instrument or looking to grow as a performer, Congleton Youth Orchestra provides an exciting opportunity to develop musical skills, build confidence, and be part of something truly special.

We’d love to hear from you!

Whether your child is just beginning their musical journey or already playing at an intermediate level, we have a group to suit them. Our Intermediate Strings and Wind Ensembles welcome those who have started learning, while our Senior Orchestra is open to players working at around Grade 4 and above.

No formal audition is required — instead, we consider each player’s experience and musical background as part of the application process.

For complete beginners, we offer expert tuition from scratch in woodwind, brass, and string instruments, available to children aged 7 and up (Year 3+).

Membership is just £50 per term or £150 for the full year, and includes access to our peripatetic instrument loan scheme (subject to availability) — so there’s no need to invest in an instrument straight away.

If you're interested in joining or would like to find out more, simply click the “Contact Us” link — we’d be delighted to help you take the next step.

Don't currently play an instrument ?

There’s still time to join our orchestra!

We’d love to welcome you to our annual Open Day, held each summer term. It’s a wonderful chance for children and parents to explore what being part of our orchestra is all about.

On the day, children can try out a wide variety of instruments, guided by our friendly and experienced team. Whether your child already loves music or is just curious to give it a go, this is the perfect opportunity to spark their interest.

If they feel inspired, they can register to join our next group of complete beginners starting in the autumn term. We can’t wait to meet our next generation of young musicians!
